Arab world also known as Arab states or Arab nations consists of 22 Arabic speaking countries. The Arab nation occupies the area from the Mediterranean Sea in north, the Indian Ocean in the southeast, the Atlantic Ocean in the West and the Arabian Sea in the east. It consists of more than 422 million inhabitants. Arab states consist of all Islamic countries and include Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Palestine, etc.
Education trend in Arab world
In Arab countries, the average rate of literacy is 76.9%. UNESCO estimates it. In some countries, the literacy rate is lower than average rate. For example, in Yemen and Mauritania, it is barely up to 50%. On the other hand, some countries show high literacy rate than average. Such countries are Syria, Palestine-Jordan, and Lebanon. These countries show literacy rate more than 90%. There have been estimated improvements in the average rate of literacy. During the 20th century, literate people increased from 64 million to 58 million. Moreover, gender disparity is high for education in Arab countries. Literate women count two third in this region. For example, for every 100 literate men, 69 women are literate and have knowledge. It means males are preferred for study and getting an education while women are discouraged. They do not have permission to study at the higher level of universities. Youth literacy rate is higher than adult literacy rate in this region.

Women in the Arab world are less educated due to less preference of society toward education for them. Modern education is of recent origin in Arab nations. It became important during the 20th century. Before 20th-century, women were not preferred to get an education in Arab world institutes. Education for women was first introduced in Iraq, Iran, and Egypt. The progress of women education is still slow and limited.
Development in education for women in Arab world
During the beginning of 19th century, education trend for females was not developed. They were not preferred to get an education with males in educational institutions. But at the end of 19th century, the abrupt increase happen for education in females. Enrollment level jumped from one million to over six million females during 1950 to 1975. The growth rate in education was estimated more than eight times. There were some unequal changes in education trends during 1950 to 1957. The initial growth level was up to nine percent, but at the end of this period, it was reduced to seven percent. But overall education level for females was developed.
Enrollment increased for the education of females at all levels. Moreover, the government had taken steps to improve the education system in the Arab world. They realized the importance of female education in society.

The government of Arab States realized the importance of education for females and introduced several reforms to improve the education system in Arab countries.
